What is Straw?  In this particular case, it is a collaborative artist-run exhibit space that invites artists to come to the Tyler building and show their work in the interdisciplinary setting of visibility between departments, faculty, students and public community.

Straw is a seeming recess into a wall with a hidden vertical climb allowing for a show of intimate and upward proportions.

Straw will host free events and programs in between exhibitions to facilitate deep public engagement and encourage dialogue between visitors of all ages, artists, and their work. Anticipated events include lectures, small discussions, readings, video screenings, and performances.  Straw is open and free to the public during the University campus’ operational visiting hours.

An event calendar, selected artists’ work and artists’ talks will be archived through the platforms on this website.

Straw is curated by Morgan Nitz and Christine McDonald.

ROS: Heads. is an exhibition of select works by Sara Bakowski, Christine McDonald, Mike Nease, KC Gale, Gillian Mead, Elliot Wattenbarger, Cristhian Varela, Carson Bohlen, Adam Franklin, Morgan Nitz, and Alyssa Pizio.

Each of these artists are concerned with theatre as either integral to production or consumption of their work. Amongst shot-for-shot reproductions, product placement supercuts, sit-com trailers, and robots, there is an unyielding concern with removing, replacing, rebuilding, or rewriting realities. Often times this involves questioning the presence of a metanarrative. In the style of a tragicomedy, ROS: Heads. finds humor in the moment right before the Deus ex Machina, complicating and questioning roles of both actors and producers within altered worlds.
The opening reception will be on Saturday, May 26th from 7-10 PM.
